Experimenting with how to water plants while you're away

I found some tips online on how to water your plants when you're away for vacation... Using a plastic bottle filled with water and pricking a hole in the lid. Then simply place the bottle upside down with poked hole cap down into a well saturated soil and there you have it! The hopes is that this method will give a few days worth of watering. I'm experimenting right now but it doest seem to last more than a whole day at best. :(

  1. I haven't had the opportunity to go on a vacation in a while, hope you have a great time. I have a tip from AZ plant lady's blog that might help. I have a snail vine that does not have access to our watering system but needs to be watered very rarely but deeply when it does need water. She recommended that I take an empty milk jug and put a pin hole in the bottom. Fill with water and place next to the roots. It waters really slowly for that reason, the water goes straight down to the roots instead of running off or evaporating. You may need to use several jugs if you're going away for a while but if the hole is small enough, it should last for a while. Hope that helps. Have a great day!
