I See Flowers

Say what?!? My tomato plant is flowering!! So exciting! Hopefully the little buggers chomping away at my basil won't do the same to my tomatoes.

Any tips on sprays I can use to prevent my plants from getting devoured?

Sand No More

We have grass!! It's been 2 weeks of waiting, watering and constantly shooing away birds but finally our yard is turning green with new grass. My husband finally agrees that reseeding new grass is better than his idea of paving concrete. I win!!

Remember our dirt and sand? Here is what it looks like now. I'm also starting to put down some stepping stones to separate an area where my planters will go. Kinda crooked and proud of it!

Ta Da

It took me 3 days to dig up all the sand in this one little spot in my front courtyard but I finally did it all!! Some soil and a few flowers later, this is what it looks like. A little bare still but better than bland sand. Wish I had gotten more geraniums. Hopefully in between the geraniums, the dahlia flowers I grew from seed will catch up and give me some more green!

Ready To Go

The entire backyard has been cleaned, scalped and reseeded for new grass. I reserved myself a little section along the wall for my plants. Right now they are still scattered around the yard in pots trying to catch the extra sprinkler water. Allergies galore with the yard cleaning!! And the hubby is not a fan of our new birdie friends picking at our grass seeds.

Internet At Last

Finally!! We are moved in and connected back to the world of internet.  It's been a crazy week and a crazier weekend, but today I got a chance to browse around Home Depot's garden center and bought garden soil and compost.  Our back yard has also been completely scalped so we can start all over from scratch. Feels great!!  Tomorrow I will be testing my shoveling skills by digging up an area of sand in the front yard to replace with some greenery.  Pictures to come maƱana.

Looks like the unpacking at our new house will have to wait!!...

Hooray

Awesome news!! We are finally homeowners!! My new yard has plenty of space and I'm excited to dig in. So many ideas bouncing around in my head (some probably too lofty for my beginners green thumb) but nevertheless I can't wait to get my hands dirty!

On another note, my neglected plants from over the weekend have come back to life! Can't wait to find them a place in my new garden!

Wilty wobbly

Gosh darnit!! I knew that 4 days without watering wouldn't be a good idea. My potted basil and several kinds of newly sprouted flowers are now flopped over. I finally watered them tonight after arriving home from a trip. Hopefully I can revive them.

Oops, Forgot To Water

We have safely arrived to Toronto to attend a friends wedding but our bags are nowhere to be found. Fun times!!.. We are staying with my in-laws and I had to borrow my mother-in-laws pjs.  Feels kind of weird... but better than wearing slacks to sleep!  Then this morning, a mad dash to the mall to find a new dress for the wedding and an outfit for the rehearsal dinner.  Phew!

And to make this trip even more perfect, I realized I forgot to water my plants before we left for this 4 day trip.  Yikes!!  Hopefully all my hard work helping my seeds sprout doesn't go down the toilet in 4 days.  Boo... I am anxious to go home to see how they fare over the weekend.  :(
